Heather Heyer’s death has shocked the entire nation. The way a White supremacist plowed his car into Charlottesville counter protest, killing a 32-year old woman Heather Heyer and badly injuring 19 other people, had numbed the people across the country.
People were incredulous, unable to believe that White supremacists could go to the extent of attacking innocent people, men, women and children, merely for opposing their ideology of hate. The innocent woman, who worked as paralegal expert at a law firm in Charlottesville lost her life and was pronounced dead when taken to a nearby hospital.
Several people who were injured in the terrorist attack are still struggling for their lives. Now there are signs that the attack was premeditated and the person reportedly took his pet to his mother to leave it there. Authorities too, have concluded that it was not at the spur of the moment, but was planned in advance.
The car that killed Heather Heyer was driven by James Alex Fields Jr who rammed the vehicle, registered in his name into a group of counterprotesters opposing a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Meanwhile, Heather Heyer’s entire family is devastated by the incident. Her father, Mark Heyer says when he received the call from his ex-wife, mother of Heather, informing him about their baby daughter’s death, he couldn’t believe the news. He said it is yet to sink in.
Heather’s father has set an example of sorts for the hate mongers who spread hate and animosity against others. While talking to a local newspaper, Mark said he forgives James Alex Fields Jr., who has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding, and one count of hit-and-run.
While talking to the newspaper he said, “People need to stop hating, and they need to forgive each other. And I include myself in that, in forgiving the guy that did this…He doesn’t know no better. You know, I just think of what the Lord said on the cross. Lord forgive him, they don’t know what they’re doing.”
Reports suggest that Heather’s parents divorced many years ago. Mark Heyer and Susan Bro, who was earlier Susan Heyer are divorced. “My ex-wife told me we lost our baby… I didn’t know what to say. I hadn’t seen the news and didn’t know what was happening”, said he.
