Gregg Allman’s sudden death has shocked the entire world. The music legend of the iconic Allman Brothers Band reportedly died at his home. He was 69.
Gregg Allman’s cause of death is said to be liver cancer. Reports suggest that the legendary singer was suffering from the deadly disease for quite sometimes. While not much was publicly known about his struggle to defeat the liver cancer, he eventually died of it.
Allman’s original name was Gregory LeNoir Allman. He was born on 8 December 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee and spent much of his childhood there. Later his family relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida where he and his older brother, Duane Allman, developed an interest in music in their teens, and began performing in the Allman Joys in the mid-1960s.
He entered the music industry very early and the fact they relocated to Los Angeles, immensely helped them in establishing themselves in the music industry. In 1969, he and Duane regrouped to form the Allman Brothers Band, which settled in Macon, Georgia.
His death was announced by his family in a statement posted on his Facebook page. “It is with deep sadness that we announce that Gregg Allman, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia,” the statement read.
Gregg Allman had a very colorful life. He married five women and left behind five children. As many as four of his children are musicians. Elijah Blue is his only child with Cher.
Elijah Blue, his son with Cher is one of the best known among his five children. His marriage with Cher lasted for merely four years. The two met Cher in 1975 “at a solo gig in Los Angeles”. Gregg Allman said in his memoir that Cher “smelled like I would imagine a mermaid would smell.” Their marriage, coming just days after the end of her union with Sonny Bono, “set the standard for a whirlwind rock ‘n’ roll courtship decades before Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee became tabloid fodder,” according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
It is rather surprising that Cher filed for divorce merely nine days after their marriage. She reportedly cited the singer’s heroin and alcohol abuse. the two reportedly reconciled, but their marriage couldn’t last for more than four years.
Elijah Blue suffered badly due to separation of his parents and was sent to a boarding school at just seven years of age. “When you go to boarding school at 7 years old, it’s kind of hard to feel like you’re not being shunned…But I’m at an age where I’m making peace with it because you just have to. But I still…it doesn’t mean it’s right. It’s still wrong to do that”, he told ETOnline.
He suffered from drug very early and says he remembers buying drugs in New York at the age of 11 when he came home to visit his parents, according to ETOnline. Elijah Blue, known professionally as P. Exeter Blue is a member of the goth rock band, Deadsy. Elijah was born on July 10, 1976 in Beverly Hills.
But apparently he is not the only son of Gregg Allman who has interest in music. Devon Allman has been described as skilled guitarist, keyboardist, and songwriter by All Music. “He shares the same sleepy eyes, the same dirty blond hair, and, of course, the same last name as his legendary father, although Devon Allman actually bears a more striking resemblance to his uncle, Duane Allman, than he does dad Gregg Allman”, a report said of him.
While he didn’t had much of interaction with his father, Devon later developed a bond with him that lasted till Allman’s death.
Layla Brooklyn Allman, Greggs’ daughter is also a well known musician. Her band, Picture Me Broken has received good words from many quarters. The band reportedly “gained fame after opening for Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson on their 2013 Masters of Madness tour.”
Twoof Allman’s children Michael Sean Allman and Delilah Island Allman are not so well known as his other children.
