Emanuel Kidega Samson kills Melanie Smith Crow at Burnette Chapel Church shooting: Photos

Metro Nashville Police have finally identified the alleged shooter in Burnette Chapel Church of Christ shooting incident. The mass shooting caused the death of a woman named as Melanie Crow Crow.

Six more people sustained injuries in the macabre shooting that was carried out by a former member of the church. Emanuel Kidega Samson, the 25-year old shooter is reportedly a Sudanese Christian immigrant who came to the US in year 1999 when he was merely a four year old boy.

It was the time when the US had allowed a large number of Sudanese Christians to immigrate to the US in the eye of increased division in what was a united Sudan at that time. Reports suggest that the alleged shooter has been arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder after police said he shot seven people, killing a woman.

While identifying the suspect, Metropolitan Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron named the shooter as 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson of Murfreesboro.




The suspect was initially taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Latest reports suggest that has been discharged and warrants are being obtained. While detailing the sequence of events, the police spokesperson said that gunman arrived in the parking lot as services were being let out Sunday at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ.

It was sometimes later that Emanuel Kidega Samson entered the rear of the church and started shooting indiscriminately, injuring six people in the process.

Till now the motive of the shooting remains unknown. In the meantime Minister Joey Spann and his wife Peggy Spann were injured in the attack. The Joey Spann is reportedly in critical condition while Peggy Spann is said to be in stable condition. Police have identified other victims as Linda Bush, 68; William Jenkins, 83; Marlene Jenkins, 84; Katherine Dickerson, 64; and Robert Engle, 22. All of these people are said to be in a stable condition.

Police claim that the gunman entered the church wearing a neoprene ski type mask. He was reportedly armed to the teeth carrying two guns. There were reports that a 911 caller told police that the shooter was wearing a “clown mask,”, nonetheless, it was later clarified that he was wearing neoprene ski type mask.

Police spokesperson while addressing the media at a press conference said, “One woman who was walking to her vehicle was immediately fatally wounded by the gunman, who we believe then entered the rear of the church, other persons were still inside the rear of the building, the gunman opened fire on them, multiple rounds were fired inside the church”.

While initially it was said that the gunman was injured. But it was not said as to how he was injured. Now it appears that his injury was self inflicted.

Police said, “The gunman was wounded by a self-inflicted shot…He too has been taken to the hospital. One of the church members, upon seeing the gunman doing this action inside the church, ran up and confronted him. He was pistol-whipped by the gunman”.

The alleged shooter who came from Sudan as a young child lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He graduated from Smyrna High School in 2010. His Facebook profile says he is a bodybuilder.
