Los Angeles: Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie Murphy is no more. The 57-year old lost his battle against leukemia after fighting it resolutely for the last several years.

While he may not be a big name like his younger brother Eddie Murphy, Charlie was a celebrated artist in his own capacity. A TMZ report while quoting Charlie’s manager said that the comedian best known for his role in Chappel Show died from leukemia Wednesday morning in a hospital in New York City. reports suggest that he was undergoing treatment at the same hospital for sometimes now. Eddie is better known than his elder brother. He was regular with Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central. When it comes to films, Eddie has received Golden Globe Award nominations for his performances in 48 Hrs., the Beverly Hills Cop series, Trading Places, and The Nutty Professor. In 2007, he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of soul singer James “Thunder” Early in Dreamgirls.
While Charlie had a rather good comedy career, he hogged limelight with his superlative performance in Comedy Central sketch comedy series Chappel’s Show. Murphy and Donnell Rawlings hosted the “lost episodes” compiled from sketches produced before Chappelle’s departure.
