Washington DC: President Donald Trump seems to be in a hurry to make changes that may have far reaching implications across the country over next several years. After signing a number of executive orders including Muslim ban and Mexico wall, Donald Trump has now selected federal appeals court Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill a Supreme Court seat.

It is unsure why the newly president who is being criticized by his own party officials was in such a hurry to fill up a vacancy that had vacant for nearly a year.

Nonetheless, this is not surprising given the fact that Trump had been claiming during his hotly debated presidential campaign that he will nominate a solidly conservative judge with a record of strictly interpreting the U.S. Constitution.

There is no denying that 49-year old Gorsuch, fits the bill. He had earlier sailed through an earlier confirmation process for a spot on the federal appeals court in Denver.

Neil Gorsuch comes with a solid background. It is no secret that he clerked for two Supreme Court justices, Byron White and Anthony Kennedy. He also served as a clerk on the second most important appeals court in the country, in Washington D.C., for conservative Judge David Sentelle. Like Justice Antonin Scalia, whom he is in line to replace, Gorsuch has cultivated a reputation as a memorable and clear author of legal opinions

Despite being picked by Donald Trump, Gorsuch is an advocate of religious freedom. Gorsuch has written that “the law … doesn’t just apply to protect popular religious beliefs: it does perhaps its most important work in protecting unpopular religious beliefs, vindicating this nation’s long-held aspiration to serve as a refuge of religious tolerance”.
