CAMBRIA, Wis. – It was a massive explosion that rattled the entire area. Authorities in Columbia County have now confirmed that there were fatalities following explosion at the Didion corn mill in Camria.
Officials said that at least one person has been killed in the explosion while two others are still unaccounted and mission. At least eleven people have been injured, a few of them seriously.
The explosion and the damage caused by it has shattered the entire area. Many people are somehow or the other related to each other in this small village. This is the reason that almost everyone seems to have been impacted by it.
Glen Williams, the Cambria Village President told the media that the explosion was heard 11 p.m. in the night at the Didion Milling plant in the 500 block of Williams Street. He went on to add that every possible resource was pressed into the evacuation and bringing the fire under control.
He went on to add that several multiple fire department vehicles and at least four medical helicopters were immediately pressed into service to provide immediate medical support to everyone affected there.
Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards while talking about the tragedy said, “This is very difficult for everyone that has been there…Families sat for hours waiting for information…The big thing everyone has to realize is the fire was still active…You had fire departments trying to put it out to get inside and get to those who needed assistance.”
According to WXOW.com report the people who manage the mill haven’t found out as to what caused the blast. Didion Milling President Riley Didion has no idea as to what caused the explosion. “We do know there was an explosion and some of our team sustained injuries…What we ask for is prayer. That is all we know at this point. It is still to early to know the cause”, he said.
