Tampa: Devon Arthurs is accused of killing two of his roommates. It is alleged that Devon Arthurs, a former neo-Nazi and a recent convert to Islam killed his roommates as they mocked him and Islam.
Things are rather very confusing right now as details are rather unclear. Devon Arthurs reportedly shot dead 22-year-old Jeremy Himmelman and 18-year-old Andrew Oneschuk before giving himself to the police. He reportedly told the authorities that his two roommates were neo-Nazis and mocked islam.
Authorities claim that he told them that the two people killed by him were impressed by anti-Islam propaganda and they too mocked the new religion he accepted. “When he was detained Friday evening, defendant Devon Arthurs claimed that the two roommates that he killed were neo-Nazis who disrespected Arthurs’ recent conversion to Islam,” a Tampa police report said.
The 18-year old Arthurs, 18, of Tampa killed his roommates on Friday at the Hamptons at Tampa Palms complex. Authorities claim that the teenager, after killing his roommates, held one employee and one customer hostage at the nearby Green Planet Smoke Shop. Officials claim that the killer boasted that he had just killed his roommates, “blasting their head” with a semi-automatic pistol.
“Do me a favor and get the f— on the ground!” Arthurs yelled as he stormed into the store. “Why shouldn’t I kill you?”
Tampa Bay police Detective Kenneth Nightlinger is quoted to have reported in a police report that the killer was upset that America was bombing Muslim countries. It was after much effort and scare that he left his hostages unharmed and surrendered to the police. The report quoted him saying “I had to do it…This wouldn’t have had to happen if your country didn’t bomb my country.”
Reports suggest that by resorting to the hostage taking, Arthurs might be seeking publicity. The store’s manager told The Tampa Bay Times that Arthurs seemed like he wanted publicity, and said, “the world was corrupt, crazy stuff like that, that he just shot someone at Hampton over there…He wanted publicity. Actually, he pointed at the camera. He said he wanted CNN to come.” According to the Tampa Police Department press release on the case, “The investigation started at approximately 5:28 p.m. on May 19 when officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious male who was possibly armed at the Green Planet Smoke Shop. The officers made contact with the suspect who was armed at the time.”
