Family kicked off Delta Airlines flight – video, photos

ViewsHeadlines Desk,

Another airline company in United States threw out an entire family with young children from a flight. The entire incident would have died down without a whimper, had the wife not recorded the entire incident on her mobile camera.

Brian Schear and his family were on a Delta Airlines. They had bought tickets for the entire family and were enjoying the time together, when all of a sudden things took a turn for the worse and the family was thrown out of the flight.

A Delta Airlines attendant came to the family and asked the father to take his two year old child in his lap and vacate the seat that Brian Schear had purchased. The attendant tried to wrongly convince the family that Delta doesn’t allow a separate seat for a two year old child. Delta, on the contrary wants its flyers to book seats for younger than two year children. When the family resisted they were threatened with dire consequences and even jail term.

A Delta Airlines attended can be heard saying in the video, “This is a federal offence and then you and your wife will be in jail and your kids will be in foster care”. The incident had happened on April 23 and without the video the issue wouldn’t have come to the light. A YouTube video of the incident has clocked up more than two million views.

The family was forced to get off the plane and search for accommodation late night. They had to spend thousands of dollars on the flight to home, taking a heavy emotional toll on the family and the children.
In the meantime the airlines company has expressed regret saying it was “sorry for the unfortunate experience” and would compensate the family. The incident follows the case of passenger Dr David Dao, who grabbed global headlines when he was injured while being physically removed from a United Airlines flight last month.

The video clip is rather very long and shows the entire incident. Schear told the crew he had booked the seat for his older son, who had taken an earlier flight to make sure one of his other children would have a seat. His two-year-old was sitting in a child safety seat, which crew members then claimed was banned under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and said the child would have to sit in an adult’s lap.

Brittany Schear, the mother of the child told NBC News that it was hard to believe that they were dumped off the plane so late in the night with the children. “When you’re a mother and you have your one-year-old and your two-year-old and they threaten to take your kids away from you, I mean whether that’s possible or whether that’s, you know against the law, it just, it made my heart drop”.

The issue has come as a huge loss of face for the Delta Airlines, more so as the crew tried to illegally threaten a family with a jail term. “We are sorry for the unfortunate experience our customers had with Delta, and we’ve reached out to them to refund their travel and provide additional compensation… Delta’s goal is to always work with customers in an attempt to find solutions to their travel issues. That did not happen in this case and we apologise” A Delta statement said.
