Crystal Griner, is one of the two police officers who were praised by President Donald Trump following the Alexandria, VA attack. The two not just saved many lawmakers who were practicing baseball at Washington DC suburbs, but also neutralized the shooter who was later pronounced dead in a hospital.
Crystal Griner, was on duty went on to save many lives during the shooting incident. The female officer of the Capitol Police took on a man who had a powerful loaded gun and probably lots of ammunition and took him out without batting an eyelid.
Crystal Griner who played basketball in college has not just been praise by the President, but has also won the respect of fellow officers and general public. She is widely regarded as a talented athlete with a powerful determination. Many people who known her, claimed that it’s good fortune that she was one of those assigned to protect the politicians and staffers gathered in the park on the morning of June 14.
The Alexandria shooting incident injured at least five people including Congressman Steve Scalise, an ally of President Trump and the Republican Whip in the House. He received a shot in the hip and remains in critical condition around twenty hours after the shooting incident. His condition seems to have worsened in the last few hours, according to many reports.
Congressman Mo Brooks, who was present there with the Congressman Scalise says, “I was out there waiting to get ready when I heard shots. There must have been 50 to 100 shots fired…Then I heard Steve Scalise at 2nd Base. He screams. There is a semi-automatic.” He told the media that he was able to reach Scalise as the Congressman dragged himself towards the dug out to seek cover, he took off his belt and was able to use it as a tourniquet to help a member of the congressional staff who had also been shot. Other people who received injuries include Matthew Mika, a lobbyist for Arkansas-based Tyson Foods Inc. he received a gunshot wound in the chest. Another person who was injured has been identified as Zack Barth, a staff member for Texas Representative Roger Williams. Besides, David Bailey and Crystal Griner –, two police officers who took on the attacker also sustained injuries.
Reports suggest that Griner and Special Agent Baily were present there to protect the Congressmen present when James Hodgkinson, a Republican hater started shooting.
Many people who were present there that it would have been a massacre had Griner and Bailey not retaliated and shot him. Scalise credited the Capitol police heroics in a statement released by his office before he went into surgery. He is now in critical condition after coming out of surgery.
The Congressman’s office in a statement said, “Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone…He is grateful for the brave actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues.” On the other hand President Donald Trump also praised the two police officers saying, “Many lives would have been lost if not for the heroic actions of the two Capitol Police officers who took down the gunman despite sustaining gunshot wounds during a very, very brutal assault”.
Reports suggest that Griner graduated from Hood College, in Frederick, Maryland. Hood College, in a Facebook statement said, “Crystal Griner, Hood Class of 2006, has been identified as one of the two heroic Capitol Police officers who are credited with saving lives when they shot the gunman at a Congressional baseball practice in Virginia. Our thoughts are with all those injured and especially Crystal and her family”.
One of her classmates wrote on Facebook, “My Hood College classmate, Crystal Griner, was one of the heroic Capitol Police officers who returned fire and disabled the Congressional Baseball game shooter even though she was herself wounded. She was a woman to be reckoned with at Hood: an amazing athlete and a lively presence. It does not surprise me at all that she would think so quickly and act so courageously. You’re not on Facebook, Crystal, but I’m honored to know you. Wishing you a speedy recovery and the knowledge that you have the gratitude of the nation behind you!” she wrote on Facebook.
