Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather fight may not happen, boxing odds etc

Floyd Mayweather Jr had retired from professional boxing in November 2015. He had remained undefeated at the top after winning as many as 49 fights without ever suffering any loss. On the contrary, despite advancing age, there was no perceptible slowdown either in his speed or the power of his punches.

Despite his retirement and his decision to stick to retirement, there have been continuous reports of Mayweather quitting the retirement and coming back to the ring.

The idea gained currency when Filippine great Manny Pacquiao renounced his retirement and started competing in professional boxing once again. Many said that there may be a Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch. Nonetheless, Mayweather didn’t bite the bait.

Now there are rumors doing the round that Mayweather may fight Conor McGregor pretty soon. Nonetheless rumors that Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor boxing match was on its way to actually happening were met with some cold water on Tuesday.

Dana White, the UFC boss was first to pour a bucketful of cold water on the rumors by saying, “There is no deal even close to being done”. Later Mayweather made similar statement on his Instagram page saying “There seems to be several rumors floating around media recently however, let the record show, there hasn’t been any deals made in regards to a fight between myself and any other fighters…I am happily retired and enjoying life at this time. If any changes are to come, be sure that I will be the first to let the world know.”

Media reports in Britain had said that McGregor recently went to the US to negotiate with the Mayweather team. There is no denying that it will be a tough call, though may make Mayweather richer by around $200 million.

The rumors about fight have been doing the rounds for a couple of months now. It gained currency after Conor McGregor’s win at UFC 205 over Eddie Alvarez. Unsurprisingly, Floyd Mayweather opened as a HUGE favorite, coming in at -2250, with McGregor coming back at +950. Odds continue to move for the potential bout as the two fighters continue to trade insults through the media. Mayweather is the wealthiest boxer till date and his networth was thought to be close to $400 million.
