Aurangabad (Maharashtra): At Malang Chowk, Partur, Jalna district, during Shiv Jayanti, some miscreants removed the green flag and hoisted a saffron flag on its place. The miscreants also beat up some youth, torched some houses and buildings in the area before fleeing. This led to communal tension in the locality.
Later the police blocked roads for security reasons. Police announced that Section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the city starting early morning. Law enforcement agencies sought forces from nearby localities like Ashti, Ghansawangi, Ambad, Mantha to have them posted at every road and roundabout across the town.
Thanks to aggressive policing, despite apprehensions, situation remained peaceful. Following the incident, police have registered FIR against 144 people and arrested a few.
Twenty years ago, Partaur faced communal riots during a Ganpati procession and the recent incident of violence brought to mind the old wonds. The previous day the miscreants had prepared to stone the gathering and though there was no reason of stoning the situation added to the communal tension. Despite it being the working day, schools, offices and other public places remained closed. People are frightened to step out of their houses and the area remained deserted.
The violence left eight people injured and the arson gutted property worth 28-30 lakh. Partaur police Inspector Mahadev Rawat was also injured in the incident. The tight security did not leave any space for further activities by the miscreants.
