Miracles happen even these days. Being shot once and escaping alive is a miracle of sorts in itself. But what you will call when someone is fired thrice over a period spanning two decades and he still survives. Mind you, the bullets in all the three instances hit the person in question, but he beat the odds all the time and returned to his job.

This unbelievable story is about a New Orleans police officer who is reportedly recovering from the third and the latest instance of being fired upon. He received a leg wound this past Monday after being shot and he is in hospital, hoping to be back again on his feet and serve the New Orleans Police department.

Authorities claim that Officer Christopher Abbott was reportedly working an off-duty private security patrol for the Hurtsville Security and Neighborhood Improvement District around 1:20am Monday morning. It was the time when the officer was fired a single shot. The bullet reportedly hit him in his leg.

Authorities claim that while the officer was off duty, he was still wearing his police uniform. Besides, the officer had lights on his dashboard while working an off-duty private security patrol.

It is said that the shot was fired from a light grey SUV that reportedly pulled up beside Abbott’s car before speeding up. Till now the shooter who fired at the officer hasn’t been named or apprehended.

The officer, who is a 25-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, is reportedly in good condition and high spirit.

Meanwhile the fact that the officer didn’t return the fire has been substantiated. This has also been confirmed by Police Superintendent Michael Harrison.

In the meantime, a CBSNews while quoting Spokesman Aaron Looney confirmed that the officer had been shot previously in two separate incidents. “Archived news accounts show Abbott was on his way to a 2001 court appearance when he spotted a man with a gun and approached him. The man fired and hit Abbott. In 1998, Abbott was wearing a protective vest when he was shot in the chest after stopping a suspect in a public housing project”, the report said.
