Boston Celtics star, Isaiah Thomas, is mourning the death of his sister Chyna Thomas. The younger sister of the star basketball player was reportedly killed in a one-car accident Saturday morning.
Authorities suggest that the 22 year old Chyna Thomas died in a single car accident on Interstate 5 in Federal Way, Washington. The impact of the accident was so powerful that the girl died instantly on the spot.
Reports suggest that Chyna Thomas was six years younger than the Boston Celtics stat basketball player.
The news of his sister’s death, according to an ESPN report was conveyed to Isaiah Thomas after he participated in Celtics practice in the afternoon.
Isaiah Thomas is some six years older than his baby sister. The 5-foot-9-inch (1.75 m) point guard played three years of college basketball for the Washington Huskies and was a three-time all-conference selection in the Pac-10. After electing to forgo his senior year in college, Thomas was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the final pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Thomas is a two-time NBA All-Star.
ESPN quoted a source close to the star played said the plan as of Saturday night is for Thomas to play Sunday evening when the team opens its first-round series against the Chicago Bulls in Boston. Isaiah Thomas’ father, James, told the Boston Herald that his son hadn’t decided when he would fly home to Tacoma, Washington, to be with family members.
Meanwhile his team in a statement said, “We are terribly saddened by the tragic loss of Chyna Thomas…The thoughts and prayers of the entire Celtics organization are with Isaiah and his family.”
