A 19-year old girl who hogged limelight across the world last year by claiming she was raped by three black men has been indicted on felony charges. More than the claim, it was the scene she had created that had forced many to instantly believe in her claim. Now the girl, who has been identified as Breana Rachelle Harmon of Pottsboro, has admitted that it was all a hoax.
Reports suggest that the Texas teen has been indicted on two third-degree felony accounts of tampering with physical evidence and a third-degree felony count of tampering with a government record. She may have to spend many years behind bars without being released.
The teen was indicted by a Grayson County grand jury, of Pottsboro on four charges, including three felonies, Wednesday related to false reports of kidnapping and sexual assault she made earlier this year in Denison. A few months ago, the girl was taken into custody after admitted that it was all drama and that she had fabricated everything.
In a press release, Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said, “Ms. Harmon was originally arrested for the misdemeanor offense of false report to a peace officer…However, the more we have looked at what happened in this case, and considered the harm it caused, and certainly could have caused, we believe what she did fits these higher charges. What she did was very serious, and we believe it was felony conduct.”
Reports suggest that the Denison Police Department is seeking as much as $8,000 in compensation in the case. Besides spending close to a decade in jail, the girl may end up paying thousands of dollars as fine. It must be kept in mind that third-degree felonies are punishable by two to ten years in jail and $10,000 fine, while state-jail felony is punishable by up to two years in state jail and a $10,000 fine.
