Mumbai: BJP has announced its list of 195 candidates for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls 2017. Now it caps the speculation about Shiv Sena and the BJP finally parting ways before crucial local elections in the financial capital of India.

The party is not contesting all the 227 seats and will leave 32 seats for its numerious minor allies in the forthcoming polls that will be held on February 22. BMP polls 2017 results will be announced on February 23.

The election has become crucial for all the leading political parties in the state including the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. All the parties are contesting separately and without any major alliance. This has made the contest a free for all where predicting a clear outcome is simply not possible.

The list of the BMP candidates was announced by Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar. It must be noted that today was the last day of filing nominations for polls to India’s richest civic body. A statement issued by Shelar early today said the BJP has fielded 117 ‘Marathi’ candidates. Some nominations in the list have raised eyebrows as they are kin of BJP leaders. BJP MP Kirit Somaiya’s son Neil has been nominated from ward no 108 in Mulund West. Deepak Thakur, son of Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Women and Child Development Vidya Thakur, will contest from ward no 50 in Goregaon. Many local leaders have complained of arbitrary selection of candidates.
