New Delhi: BJP has finally released the list of all its candidates for the MCD election 2017. But the fact that the party had to wait for the last day and till the final hours to finalize the list seems to have showcased the fissures within the saffron camp before the nomination process was even over.
Notwithstanding the fact that the party chief Amit Shah was involved in the process of picking up the candidates for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election, the differences were all too visible for everyone to see.
A party that won a massive majority in the most populous state of the country, merely a few days ago, the signs don’t seem to look good. Nonetheless it will be wrong to suggest that it is only party that faced problem in picking up candidates. There are huge differences in the Congress camp too. Rumors are doing the rounds that former health minister in Delhi government is contemplating to quit the party and join the Aam Aadmi Party.
A Times of India report while talking about the differences within the BJP over ticket distribution says, “The decision to field wives and relatives of office-bearers has not gone down well with workers either. The party has given ticket to Chanchal Joshi, who is the wife of Mayur Vihar district president, and Aparna Goel, wife of the mandal president in IP Extension. Tiwari had earlier said that the maximum age of candidates would be 45 years. But the party has fielded Col (retd) Oberoi from Rajouri Garden and Tilak Raj Kataria from Shalimar Bagh (south). Party workers said while Kataria was in his 60s, Oberoi was more than 70 years old”.
