Los Angeles: Did Bill Paxton suffer stroke during heart surgery? While the question hasn’t been answered by his family members, a report in the Philly said that the Titanic actor indeed suffered a massive stroke during heart surgery.
The statement that his family released didn’t mention Bill Paxton’s cause of death. Later it was revealed by Rolling Stone that the actor died following complications after heart surgery.
In the meantime, more reports are coming out about his health condition. The actor had said, a couple of months ago, that he had suffered valve damage from a case of rheumatic fever as a child.
A detailed description about rheumatic fever in Healthline says, “Rheumatic fever is one of the complications associated with strep throat. It’s a relatively serious illness that can cause stroke, permanent damage to your heart, and death if it’s left untreated…The condition usually appears in children between the ages of 5 and 15, even though older children and adults have been known to contract the fever as well. Experts believe that the rheumatic fever can damage the heart’s mitral valve, and less commonly the aortic valve.
The Philly report says, “The actor Bill Paxton is said to have suffered a fatal stroke at age 61 while undergoing heart surgery, apparently to correct a damaged valve…Details are scarce, but in an otherwise healthy man of that age, the risk of stroke during heart-valve surgery is less than 1 percent, according to a risk calculator from the Society for Thoracic Surgeons”.
Apparently, it is this thing that has shattered his family more than anything. The family believed that the actor will recover after a ‘harmless’ surgery.
Director Doug Liman said Paxton was very confused about his forthcoming surgery. He said that the actor was worried though remained optimistic about the future. Liman added to the NY Daily News: ‘Even facing major surgery, his optimism for the future was infectious. ‘He was talking about the future, things we hoped to do together.’ Paxton is set to appear alongside Tom Hanks, who he originally shared the screen with in Apollo 13, later this year in The Circle.
61-year old Paxton is survived by his wife Louise Newbury and two children. His funeral details will be updated as soon as details are out.
