Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, the national president of All India United Democratic Front and Lok Sabha MP has questioned the alleged encounter of eight Muslim youth in Bhopal. He is not alone in questioning the alleged fake encounter of eight SIMI activists.
The encounter started raising doubts immediately after the news was flashed on television screens. The newspapers had claimed that the police had gunned down eight ‘terrorists’ in an encounter. Later the state home minister said that the SIMI activists were armed with prison utensils and that they were killed when they attacked the police personnel chasing them.
Ajmal, a leading perfume baron and major political voice in the country said that the videos that have been in circulation showing the encounter create many questions. He said the suspicious manner of the whole encounter should be investigated by Supreme Court.
He went on to add that if those people were really criminals, they should have been punished by the court. He went on to add that criminals should be punished, but those police officials should also be punished who are involved in this fake encounter. Killing someone illegally is the biggest crime and it cannot be condoned.
Badruddin Ajmal said that experts have serious doubts about the authenticity of the Bhopal encounter of SIMI activists. It looks fake from the outset as it seems that they were brought to the spot before the killing and then killed in cold blooded manner. He says there are instances in the past when Muslim prisoners have been killed in cold blood by police officials and then these killings have been termed encounter. This includes killing of seven under-trials in Telangana where they were killed during shifting from one jail to the other.
Ajmal further said that there is similarity in both the cases as well. Under-trials in both the cases were set to be released sooner than later and police killed them as cover up for their failure to substantiate their allegations against the under-trials.
“If these people were really so dreaded criminals why there was only a single security guard? IG says they were armed and that they fired at police while police officials who were part of the encounter said that they had only spoons and knives. If they were criminals in the eyes of the police why efforts were not made to arrest them alive and why they were not fired at their feet to immobilize them. Video footages clearly show that they were unarmed. If the CCTV was not working, why they were not apprehended by the patrolling team of the police and how they succeeded in scaling the 35 feet high prison wall” questions Ajmal.
