Viewsheadlines Desk,

Bailey Holt’s death has shocked her family, friends and almost everyone in the city. The 15-year old girl lost her life when a fellow student of the Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky went on rampage, killing at least two people and injuring 17 others. At least five people who sustained bullet wounds are reportedly in serious condition.

Reports suggest that the two students of the school who lost their lives in the rampage are both 15 year old. The girl’s death in the mindless violence in this otherwise peaceful locality has angered and troubled almost everyone in the region.

The shooting that was not intended to target a particular person unfolded in the morning of January 23, 2018. Benton is a small town with less than five thousand inhabitants.

While one of the victim of the mindless shooting has been identified as Bailey Holt, the other one, another 15-year old student has been recognized as Preston Ryan Cope.

Shooting in schools are not very uncommon in US. Last year there were several shooting incidents in different schools across the US. In Freeman High School, Rockford, Washington one student lost his life and three were injured when a 15-year-old student opened fire in the school campus.

On 7th December last year in Aztec High School, Aztec, New Mexico a former student entered the school, disguised as a student and hid in an unlocked washroom with a Glock 9mm. two students of the school were killed when he opened fire after being spotted by a staffer.

A fellow student of the school, while expressing shock at Bailey Holt’s death wrote on social networking giant Facebook, “It’s crazy how you go from laughing with your friends to hearing several gun shots back to back in the next hallway…No one knows what to do we all just look at each other waiting for someone else to say something. What feels like hours we locked ourself in a tiny room while hearing our friends scream. But all we know to do is hide and stay quiet. I feel terrible for the kids that could not get in a room and had to keep running while scared for their lives. I feel terrible for Bailey Holt and Preston Cope.”

Bailey Holt’s friends and classmates remember her as a very friendly and affable teenage. “Bailey holt was always so happy and a great friend we will love you and can’t believe you were taking away from us so soon. But god has definitely gained a beautiful angel.💙 prayer to her family as they go through all this,” said one of her friends of Facebook.

A report says that her boyfriend, also a student at the school was injured in the shooting too. His relatives have been quoted as saying that the boy is out of danger and is expected to make it.

A witness while talking to UK Mirrir said, the shooter looked “determined” and like “he knew what he was doing” as he went from one student to the next, pulling the trigger. “No one screamed. It was almost completely silent as people just ran. He just ran out of ammo and couldn’t do anything else”.

Another friend of the kid said, “Today on 1-23-18 we lost two of the greatest people I have ever met all because one kid was ‘hurting inside…I’m thankful for my injured friends that have stayed strong through their process of healing. Bailey Holt and Preston Cope were two great people, I have never heard one negative thing come from their mouths. I’m glad we made the memories we did with each other. It hurts knowing we won’t be able to share the laughs anymore…”
