Another Muslim family attacked, beaten with rods on a moving train in UP

Lucknow: The criminal incidents against Muslims across the country, particularly in North India are taking a serious turn. The criminal gangs, apparently belonging to right wing organizations are targeting the Muslim community in a large part of the country, especially in the states where the BJP is in power.

Incidents of violence against Muslims are being reported with increased frequency. And in most cases, the criminals are not booked and let off if booked due to ‘lack of evidence’.

In a repeat of almost what happened with hafiz Junaid in Ballabhgarh, Haryana last month, a Muslim family returning from a wedding was assaulted and a girl of the family molested on a moving train. The family members were reportedly beaten up with metal rods by a mob that was hurling religious slurs at them and then looted them of jewelry and other precious items.

Reports suggest that attackers didn’t spare anyone from the family including women and children. All of them were beaten with heavy metal pipes and have sustained serious injuries. The family members claim that when they called the police, it didn’t arrive on time.

The incident reportedly happened close to Farukkhabad in western Uttar Pradesh. According to a police officer, eight members of the family are injured – some seriously.

Ever since the BJP formed the government in the state, such incidents have gone up substantially. An NDTV report claims that a man molested a girl of the family, who was subsequently beaten up. Later he reportedly called reinforcements to “take revenge”. As the train stopped at the next station, his friends entered the compartment in which the family was travelling and attacked the family. “They kept beating us… they robbed us, took away our jewellery,” said a woman of the family at the hospital. The family claims that the police didn’t arrive as the emergency 100 helpline was not working.
