New York: For the last thirteen years, Alan Colmes, one of the leading US broadcaster and news presenters, looked smitten by his wife. Everyone in the industry knew that he was in love with his work. But all of them also knew that his first love was she and broadcasting was the second most desirable thing after Dr Jocelyn Crowley for him.
Though they married very late in the day, he was some 53 year old when cupid hit him. It was like a teenage type love, and everyone close to him knew how he felt about his wife.
Their love for each other was evident when he brought his wife to his show and they discussed not just her book, but showered praise on each other.
While he was described as a liberal, his critics claimed he could only be described as Fox TV liberal, who was presented as a liberal to give some credibility to the channel he was associated. He was co-host of Hannity & Colmes. Both, Alan Colmes and Sean Hannity, came from very different background. While Hannity is a renowned conservative, Colmes was a leading liberal light. It was probably because of his longstanding presence on the Fox that it had a semblance of some respect from liberal leaning population.
After running on Fox nonstop for around 13 years from the year 1996 to 2009, the two split when Hannity went solo on FNC. Colmes began his career in stand-up comedy. Later he developed his radio career in the Northeast, eventually working at stations such as WABC, WNBC, WHN, WMCA, and WEVD in New York City. His radio career took off when WABC hired him for the morning drive time slot. He had been syndicated nationally, starting with his involvement with Daynet, a venture created by Colmes and other regional radio hosts. Colmes kept his own show, which was distributed by Fox News Radio. He was hired by Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in 1996. His association with the Fox News lasted till the last days of his life.
His wife, Dr. Jocelyn Elise Crowley, has been devastated by his wife. In a statement she said, “He was a great guy, brilliant, hysterical, and moral. He was fiercely loyal, and the only thing he loved more than his work was his life with Jocelyn. He will be missed”. She is the sister of Monica Crowley, who is also a leading Fox News presented. Alan Colmes cause of death is described as lymphoma, a form of cancer, at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan on February 23, 2017.
