Finally the die has been cast. The son has upstaged his father and has now everything from chief minister’s chair to the president’s post of the party that his father founded some twenty five years ago. And as the icing on the cake he has got the party’s poll symbol, cycle, too from election Commission of India
Political observers claim that the masterstrokes by a rather political novice look astounding when compared to the Himalayan mistakes that his father, a seasoned politician, has made throughout the coup staged by 43-year old Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Now there is near unanimity that the coup and the resultant ouster of elements like Amar Singh and even uncle Shivpal Yadav have been to the immense benefit of the young chief minister. Here we look at the five important benefits for Akhilesh Kumar Yadav from the party split.
Gets rid of Amar Singh
There is no denying that Amar Singh was a thorny issue for Akhilesh. He was dead against his entry into the party fold and never accepted his appointment as the general secretary of the party. Now with the split he is finally free from him and the party (the leftover) is not expected to face any interference from Amar Singh and his group.
The issue of successor is resolved
With the party, or rather most part of it, having stood solidly behind the charismatic Akhilesh Yadav, there is no perceptible threat to him from any corner. Earlier there was confusion over the baton of party leadership passing from Mulayam Singh Yadav. Many people thought that Mulayam’s younger brother Shivpal Yadav was also a strong contender for inheriting the party leadership after Mulayam. The sort of anti-Akhilesh campaign that Shivpal and his camp planned against the chief minister had left no one in doubt about the true intentions of the uncle.
Alliance with Congress party has no obstacle now
There is no denying that with Mulayam Singh calling the shot in the party and Amar Singh behind him, there was no chance of the party forging an alliance with the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi led Congress has done some real hard work in the state in the last two years and can be a real force in the forthcoming assembly elections. With Congress party around, Akhilesh led alliance can become a winnable proposition in the forthcoming elections in the state.
Muslims’ support can be retained
There is no denying that an alliance with Congress party will ensure that Muslims who were planning to desert Samajwadi Party can be brought back to the alliance fold. Muslims make more than 20 percent of the state population and without their support Akhilesh can never ever dream to retain the power in the state. Muslims may find the alliance a hope to beat the BJP that may win the election in the state in otherwise case.
Gets rid of anti-incumbency factor
There is no denying that in the whole Yadav feud, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has emerged as a politician with a clean image. With the Election Commission ruling in his favour, Akhilesh’s steps to take on his uncle Shivpal Yadav and father Mulayam would be seen as getting vindicated. With Mulayam Singh Yadav not there to raise objections, it would now be easier for Akhilesh Yadav to not just stitch an alliance with Congress but also get rid of the anti-incumbency factor. Many people believe while the old guard in the party was corrupt and backed mafia and underworld, youthful chief minister has a rather clean image who has delivered on some of his promises.
