Afzal Husain Awards 2017 ceremony held in Chennai for excellence in education

Chennai: Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Tamil Nadu chapter conducted the prestigious ‘AFZAL HUSAIN AWARDS 2017’ at the Kamaraj memorial Hall. Prof.Naganathan, Ex. Deputy Chairman, State Planning Commission and Mr. Nahas Mala, All India President, SIO graced the function as the chief guests.

Mr.Nawas Kani, Managing Director, ST Courier & Cargo and Mr. Shabbir Ahmad, Patron, SIO Tamil Nadu were the ‘guest of hanour’ for the function.

Afzal Husain Award for the Best Educationist was given to Late. Sheik Dawood sahib of Trichy, for his service in moulding students from poor background in to educated people comprising of many PhD holders, doctors, teachers, engineers and technocrates. His service is acknowledged with the transformation of the Palakarai area in Trichy.

Another award, The Afzal Husain Award for Best Institution was given to ‘Murtazawiya Oriental Secondary High School’ for its service to the society including physically challenged students.

The Afzal Husain Best Teacher award was given to Ms.Sabarimala, who is continuing her struggle against the NEET Entrance Exam, which does injustice to millions of students, stopping them from taking medicine as their course. Ms.Sabarimala has resigned her government teacher post in protest against the NEET exam.

The award function was attended by around 400 students from 18 schools.

Earlier, the award ceremony was proceded by annual inter-school competions ‘Scholastic’17’ with 8 different competitions. MWA Hr.Sec.School bagged the ‘Overall Championship’ award.
