1 dead, 2 injured in Bronx crash, names of victims, jeep driver unclear: Photos
A fatal accident in Bronx has caused the death of at least one person and injured two others. The driver of the Jeep who was allegedly highly drunk and caused the accident has been taken into the custody.
In the meanwhile officials claim that the accident involving at least three cars caused the death of a 31-year-old man. The cause of the fatal accident was the driver of a jeep who was reportedly over-speeding.
Authorities claim that Jeep was speeding northbound on Bronx Boulevard just before 3 a.m. when it hit Nissan Altima, which was making a left turn at the intersection on Burke Avenue. The damaged car ran into the third vehicle, smashing all the three cars very badly.
The inebriated driver of the Jeep tried to get away in his damaged car oblivious of the fact that one of the wheels of his shinign toy was missing and the front of his car was completely wrecked.
officials said that two women, one a passenger in the Altima and the other an occupant of the third car, were taken to Jacobi Medical Center. Officials say their injuries are not considered life-threatening. On the other hand the driver of the Jeep was taken to Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Police say the 54-year-old Jeep driver is under arrest for DWI.
NYDailyNews while quoting Keith McCoy, 35, a desk manager at an assisted living facility near the crash scene said, “The Jeep was going 70, maybe 80…The Altima was at a stop sign and about to turn when — boom! – the Jeep hits it and the car ping pongs across the intersection.”
NYDailyNews, while further quoting McCoy said, “He was drunk but he wasn’t hurt…You could smell it on his breath…He was trying to turn his car back on and drive away…He didn’t realize his tire was missing.”
